Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):
JULY 22, 1916
The Philippine National Bank was established as a government-owned bank located at the old Masonic temple in Escolta, Manila.
The Philippine legislature passed Public Act 2612 creating the PNB and replacing the Agriculture Bank to provide financial services to various industries, the agriculture sector and to support the government's economic development effort.
In 1996, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved the Bank's new Articles of Incorporation and by-laws and changed PNB’s status from a government-based to a private corporation.
