Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition Series 2):
JULY 27, 1873
Pantaleon Villegas y Soldi (July 27, 1873 – April 8, 1898) popularly known as León Kilat (Lightning Lion) was born in Bacong, Negros Oriental.
He was the revolutionary leader in Cebu during the Philippine Revolution against Spain.
Villegas led his forces in the Battle of Tres de Abril where they engaged the Spaniards on April 3, 1898.
He was treacherously murdered in Kabkab now called Carcar by Apolinario Alcuitas, a Katipunan recruit on April 8, 1898.
Leaders in Kabkab plotted his death for fear that the Spanish authorities will retaliate against them.
