Manuel Gonzales Araullo

JULY 26, 1924

Manuel Gonzales Araullo (January 1, 1853 - July 26, 1924), was the third Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. 

He was born in Batangas and graduated at Colegio de San Juan de Letran earning the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy degree. 

He received his Doctorate of Laws from the University of Santo Tomas where he became a professor and taught law. 

Araullo was a Relator de la Real Audencia de Manila and its judge-at-large during the Spanish period. 

He served as a judge in Manila and was a prosecuting attorney in Cebu and Manila. He was known for his fair judgements thus earning for him the title, “The Just Judge.” 

Araullo was appointed as Chief Justice by US President Warren Gamaliel Harding, after the death of Chief Justice Victorino Mapa. 

His term began on November 1, 1921 until his demise on July 26, 1924. 

Two schools were named after him, the Manuel Araullo High School in Manila and Araullo University in Nueva Ecija.
