Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Appoints His Cabinet

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition Series 2):

JULY 15, 1898

General Emilio Aguinaldo made the first cabinet appointments for his Revolutionary Government in Bacoor, Cavite.

Baldomero Aguinaldo was appointed as Secretary of War and Public Works, Leandro Ibarra as Secretary of the Interior, and Mariano Trias as Secretary of the Treasury.

Aguinaldo also appointed Felipe Buencamino, Gregorio Araneta, Teodoro Sandico and Alejandro Albert as representatives to the Chief of the North American army on the issue of the occupation of Manila.

Cayetano Arellano was offered the post as Secretary of Foreign Affairs but declined and pretended to be ill because he has already sided with the Americans. Apolinario Mabini later got the position.

The Revolutionary Government ended when the First Philippine Republic was established on January 23, 1899.
