JULY 4, 1902
US President Theodore Roosevelt issued Proclamation 483 that granted pardon and amnesty to participants in the insurrection in the Philippines.
The civil government was established and General Adna Chaffee, the military governor of the Philippines was relieved of his civic duties.
The Philippine-American War also known as the Philippine Insurrection by the Americans began on February 4, 1899.
General Emilio Aguinaldo issued a proclamation on that day stating “that peace and friendly relations with the Americans be broken and that the latter be treated as enemies, within the limits prescribed by the laws of war.”
The Malolos Congress enacted and ratified a Declaration of War on the United States on June 2, 1899.
Although July 4, 1902 was the official date the war ended, on April 9, 2002, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo proclaimed that the Philippine–American War ended on April 16, 1902 with the surrender of General Miguel Malvar.
