Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition Series 2):
JULY 23, 1956
Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Japan normalized after the Peace Treaty and Reparations Agreement was ratified.
Towards the end of the 1950s, Japanese investors came back to the country.
Having close and friendly relations with Japan has been beneficial for both countries and peoples which cover trade and economic cooperation, political and security, development assistance, socio-cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and labor and cultural issues.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Proclamation No. 854 in 2006 declaring July 23 as Philippines-Japan Friendship Day.
Japan is a major influence in the security situation and economic development of East Asia and the region.
