JULY 28, 1963
United Arab Airlines Flight 869 crashed into the Arabian Sea near India killing a delegation composed of 24 scouts and officials of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines together with 28 passengers and 8 crew members.
The Philippine delegation were on their way to attend the 11th World Scout Jamboree in Marathon, Greece.
Pope Paul VI and world leaders sent condolence messages while Filipinos mourned the deaths of the scouts.
In 1988, Pres. Corazon Aquino declared every July 28 as Scout Memorial Day.
