Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):
JULY 8, 1942
Wenceslao “Bintao” Vinzons (September 28, 1910 – July 15, 1942) was captured by Japanese troops in Camarines with the help of a guerrilla-turned-informant.
He was the leader of the guerrilla movement in the Bicol area who conducted raids against the invaders.
“Bintao” became the prime target after 3,000 Japanese were killed by his 2,800-strong guerrilla fighters.
Vinzons was executed on July 15, 1942 together with his father, sister, wife and two children.
He was the youngest constitutional convention delegate, governor and representative of Camarines Norte.
