JULY 13, 1901
Gen. Miguel Malvar assumed the responsibility as Commander-in-Chief and President of the Philippines after Pres. Emilio Aguinaldo was captured by American Gen. Frederick Funston with the help of the Macabebe scouts in Palanan, Isabela on March 23, 1901.
Aguinaldo’s successor, Gen. Mariano Trias earlier surrendered on March 15, 1901 making Malvar the next successor.
The Hong Kong Junta affirmed his authority in succeeding Aguinaldo.
