JULY 25, 1605
Miguel de Benavides y Añoza (c. 1552 – July 25, 1605) was the 3rd Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Manila and founder of the University of Santo Tomas.
He was born in Carrión de los Condes, Spain and was part of the first Dominican Mission that arrived in the Philippines in 1587.
He authored the Doctrina Christiana in Chinese, the first book printed in the Philippines.
After his death, his library and property were donated for the establishment of the Colegio de Nuestra Senora del Santisimo Rosario now the University of Santo Tomas.
