The first elections for the members of the Philippine Assembly were held.
The Partido Nacionalista won the majority seats of the 80 districts against the Progresista party and the Independents.
Sergio Osmeña was elected Speaker and Manuel Quezon became majority floor leader. US Secretary of War William Howard Taft addressed the First Philippine Assembly.
The Philippine Organic Act of 1902 stipulated the establishment of the Philippine Legislature composed of the Philippine Assembly (lower house) and the Philippine Commission (upper house).
