Dwight Filley Davis Sr. was appointed Governor-General of the Philippines by Pres. Herbert Hoover and occupied the post until January 9, 1932.
A tennis player turned politician, he was Assistant Secretary of War (1923-25)) then Secretary of War (1925-29) under Pres. Calvin Coolidge.
His legacy as governor-general was the reconstruction of MalacaƱan Palace, the residence of American military and civil governors and transforming it from a wooden Spanish colonial mansion to that of a 1930s concrete palace.
