AUGUST 7, 1928
Rafael Montinola Salas (August 7, 1928 – March 4, 1987), internationally known as “Mr. Population” was born in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
He was the first executive director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and headed it with efficiency and distinction from 1969 until his death on March 3, 1987.
Salas graduated with honors from the University of the Philippines in 1950 and completed his B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) and LL.B (Cum Laude) in 1953.
He obtained a Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1955 at Harvard University.
