Lauro Zarate Alcala

AUGUST 18, 1926

Lauro Zarate Alcala (August 18, 1926 – June 24, 2002), a well-known editorial cartoonist and illustrator was born in Daraga, Albay. 

His first comic strip called Siopawman was printed in Halakhak Komiks in 1946. A year later, Kalabog en Bosyo was born. 

He made around 500 cartoon characters that included Asiong Aksaya and Mang Ambo, 20 comic strips, 6 movies, 2 murals, and 15,000 published pages in 56 years of cartooning. 

Larry Alcala received a lot of awards and citations for his works and founded the Samahan ng Kartonista ng Pilipinas.
