The Katipunan was discovered by the Spanish authorities after Teodoro Patiño, a worker of the printing shop that published the Diario de Manila was persuaded by his sister to reveal the activities of the secret society to Fr. Mariano Gil, the parish priest of Tondo.
The Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan also known as Katipunan or KKK was organized by Deodato Arellano, Valentin Diaz, Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata and Ladislao Diwa on July 7, 1892 with the aim of gaining independence from Spain through a revolution.
