Manuel Viola Gallego Sr. (January 18, 1893 - August 13, 1976), a congressman and educator passed away on this day.
Born in San Antonio, Nueva Ecija, Gallego became a lawyer in 1919. He served as congressman of Nueva Ecija’s first district in 1931 and was reelected in 1941.
He was the last Secretary of Instruction during the Commonwealth of the Philippines under Pres. Sergio Osmena’s administration.
As the first Secretary of Education of the Republic of the Philippines under Pres. Manuel Roxas, he introduced new textbooks on relevant subjects.
