Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):
JANUARY 24, 1897
The Cry of Tarlac began when Gen. Francisco Makabulos and his men attacked the cuartel or garrison of the Spanish guardia civil and soldiers in La Paz, Tarlac.
Armed only with knives, spears and a few guns, they defeated the Spaniards and took the arms and ammunition in the garrison.
Their victory would further ignite the revolution in the provinces of Tarlac & Pampanga.
As early as 1895, Makabulos, the caudillo (military leader), began recruiting members to Andres Bonifacio’s Katipunan in Tarlac.
The Tarlac chapter was established by Ladislao Diwa.
