Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):
JANUARY 6, 1812
Melchora Aquino de Ramos (January 6, 1812 – March 2, 1919), a Filipina revolutionary popularly known as "Tandang Sora" was born in Balintawak, Caloocan.
She took care of her six children after her husband Fulgencio Ramos, a cabeza de barrio (village chief) died.
During the revolution, at the age of 84, she fed, nursed and gave advises to the revolutionaries.
Her store became a place for the sick and wounded while her house was where secret meetings of the Katipunan were held.
She was later arrested by the Spanish authorities and exiled to Guam.
