Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):
JANUARY 12, 1889
The Asociacion Hispano-Filipina was formed by Filipinos and Spaniards in Madrid, Spain. Its aim was to have a thorough reform of the Philippines.
To make it more effective, it was divided into three sections. Marcelo H. del Pilar headed the political section, the literary section was headed by Mariano Ponce, and the sports section was under Tomas Arejola. Miguel Morayta, a history professor at the Universidad Central de Madrid, and Felipe de la Corte, an author of several works that talked about the Philippines, were among the prominent Spanish members.
