Gen. Douglas MacArthur

JANUARY 26, 1880

Douglas MacArthur (January 26, 1880 – April 5, 1964), an American five-star general, Field Marshal of the Philippine Army, and liberator of the Philippines was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. 

He was Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and led Allied forces in the Pacific theater in World War II. 

For his service in the Philippine Campaign, he was given the Medal of Honor, the same recognition given to his father, Arthur MacArthur, Jr.,  the first father and son to be awarded the medal. 

MacArthur was one of five men to rise to the rank of General of the Army in the US Army.
