Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition Series 2):
JANUARY 14, 1942
Col. Murosawa, head of the Religious Section of the Japanese Army, issued the Declaration to Christians in the Philippines in which he gave his views assuring the freedom of religion.
Church pulpits were later used to convince the Filipinos that it was useless to resist the Japanese occupation.
Leniency was granted to the Muslims while conciliatory moves were extended to the Philippine Independent Church.
On the other hand, American protestant ministers were imprisoned at the Santo Tomas Internment Camp.
