The Virgin of Antipolo Arrives In Manila

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):

JULY 18, 1626

The image of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage or the Virgin of Antipolo arrived in Manila during the galleon trade between the Philippines and Mexico.

Don Juan NiƱo de Tabora brought it aboard the galleon El Almirante that left Mexico on March 25, 1625.

A feast was held in honor of the Blessed Virgin for their safe arrival after months in stormy seas and a fire on the ship.

After the death of Gov. Tabora, the image was given to the Jesuits and was later placed at the Quiapo Church until October 15, 1945 where it was enshrined at the Antipolo Cathedral.
