Binibining Pilipinas winner Maria Margarita “Margie” Roxas Moran competed in the 22nd Miss Universe pageant and won. She was also named Miss Photogenic.
There were 61 beautiful ladies from around the world who vied for the title held at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, Greece and was the first Miss Universe event to be held in Europe.
The first Filipina to win the title was Gloria Diaz in 1969 and the latest was Pia Wurtzbach in 2015.
Miss Universe is an annual beauty pageant that is handled by the Miss Universe Organization.
It is seen in more than 190 countries and half a billion people worldwide watch it annually. The first Miss Universe Pageant was held in Long Beach, California in 1952.
