Ma. Aurora “Aimee” Carandang-Gloria Flies As Captain

JULY 6, 1993

Captain Ma. Aurora “Aimee” Carandang-Gloria, the first Filipina pilot and the first female pilot in Asia, became the first female to fly as a full-pledge captain for Philippine Airlines. 

She flew a PAL Fokker 50 flight from Manila to Baguio. She inspired other women to become pilots.

In an interview, she shared “I have always believed that there are no boundaries in what women can accomplish in life. 

My scholastician education has nurtured that belief and has instilled in ..” 

Aurora Carandang-Gloria is a product of Saint Scholastica’s College, Manila, HS Class of 1982. 

As of 2016, PAL, the company where she started as a pilot has 39 female pilots and PAL Express has 15. 

In 2016, she became a member of the executive board of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) as head executive assistant.
