OCTOBER 13, 1868
Teresa “Nay Isa” Magbanua y Ferraris (October 13, 1868 - August 1947), a schoolteacher, military leader, and the "Joan of Arc of the Visayas" was born in Pototan, Iloilo.
She joined the Panay-based Visayan arm of Andres Bonifacio’s Katipunan when the Philippine Revolution broke out in 1896.
She served in Emilio Aguinaldo’s revolutionary army as a unit commander under Gen. Martin Delgado. Riding a horse, “Nay Isa” led her men to victory against the Spanish forces in the Battle of Barrio Yoting in Pilar, Capiz and in the Battle of Sap-ong Hill in 1898.
