Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition Series 2):
JUNE 10, 1873
Restituto Javier (June 10, 1873 - December 20, 1936), one of the first members of the Katipunan founded by Andres Bonifacio, was born in Tondo.
He and his half brother, Jose Turiano Santiago were the primary sponsors of the wedding of Bonifacio and Gregoria de Jesus.
He got acquainted earlier with Bonifacio while they were employed in the British firm Fressel and Co.
His task in the revolutionary movement was to enlist the men to join the movement.
The Spanish authorities arrested him and his half brother and were exiled to the Canary Islands.
He returned to the Philippines through a prisoner exchange program and joined General Pantaleon Garcia's forces.
