Pres. Elpidio Quirino Signs RA 573

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):

SEPTEMBER 7, 1950

Pres. Elpidio Quirino signed into law Republic Act 573 or the Philippine Military Aid to the United Nations Act. 

This was the Philippines commitment to the United Nations’ Security Council Resolution 83 declaring war against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) after it attacked South Korea on June 25, 1950. 

Gen. Douglas MacArthur was appointed Commander-in-chief of the United Nations Command. 

Former Pres. Fidel Ramos was a lieutenant of the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (PEFTOK) during the Korean War.
