Greenland's Women's National Costumes Stamps

World Stamp Today:

JANUARY 18, 2016

Greenland Post issued the Women's National Costumes series on January 18, 2016.

Four beautiful designs, illustrated by Lisbeth Karline of Nanortalik depicted the regional costumes from the North, 10.50 kr; West, 12kr; East 13.50 kr; and South, 48.50 kr.

In the past, to keep them warm in the harsh climate, the people of Greenland used the skins of polar bears, seals, reindeers, foxes, rabbits and dogs. Those were the times when they did not have access to fabrics and beads.

At present, they have blended the traditional materials with modern styles, and created contemporary designs with traditional Greenlandic symbols.
