Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition Series 2):
MAY 6, 1900
The Americans captured Gen. Pantaleon Garcia and Lt. Col. Hilario Tal Placido in Jaen, Nueva Ecija.
In Garcia's possession was an order from President Emilio Aguinaldo giving him dictatorial powers within his jurisdiction and extending to him judicial, political as well as life and death authority.
Years later, when he was Sergeant-at-arms of the Philippine Senate during the presidency of Manuel L. Quezon, he made a startling revelation that Pres. Emilio Aguinaldo gave him an order to assassinate Gen. Antonio Luna in 1899.
In February 1901, Col. Placido, who personally knew Aguinaldo double-crossed him which led to his capture by Gen. Frederick Funston in Palanan, Isabela.
