World Stamp Today:

FEBRUARY 07, 2020

Russia Post issued a stamp on February 7, 2020 as part of the Nobel Prize Winners series.

The stamp, designed by artist S. Ulyanovsky was released to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate in Literature, writer and poet Ivan A. Bunin (October 10 (22) -  November 8, 1953). It has Bunin’s portrait against a Russian manor house.

His writings include Under the Open Skies (1898), and Falling Leaves (1901); Antonov Apples (1900), Pines (1901), Mitya's Love (1924), Sunstroke (1925); and the most important novel in his life — The Life of Arseniev (1927−1929, 1933), which brought him the Nobel Prize in 1933 “for the strict artistry with which he carried on the classical Russian traditions.”

He is the first Russian to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature, and one of the finest among Russian stylists.
