Gen. Gregorio del Pilar

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):

NOVEMBER 14, 1875

Gen. Gregorio del Pilar (November 14, 1875 – December 2, 1899), one of the youngest generals of the revolutionary army who fought during the Philippine Revolution and the Philippine-American War, was born in Bulacan.

Known as Goyong and Boy General, he joined Andres Bonifacio’s Katipunan and distinguished himself as a field commander in Bulacan.

He soon became one of Emilio Aguinaldo’s military officers who rose from the ranks.

He led his men to victory in the Battle of Quingua that killed Maj. James Franklin Bell on April 23, 1899.
