Japanese Planes Attack Pearl Harbor

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition Series 2):

DECEMBER 7, 1941

Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The Pacific fleet’s 2,403 sailors, soldiers and civilians were killed with 1,178 wounded while eight battleships and around 200 planes were destroyed.

The Japanese believed that Asia is the property of the  Emperor and the Imperial Japanese Government.

The presence of American military forces in the Philippines, the British in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and the Dutch in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) hampered their goal of acquiring Asia so they decided to attack the foreign forces.
