The island of Mactan celebrates the Kadaugan sa Mactan, an annual re-enactment of The Battle of Mactan that highlights the April 27, 1521 victory of Datu Lapu-lapu over Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan.
Philippine action star Philip Salvador played the part of Lapu-lapu while Lloyd Umali, a singer took on the role of Ferdinand Magellan. Actor/model Will Devaughn acted as one of Lapu-lapu's chieftains.
The Kadaugan sa Mactan is a week-long activity that featured the Great Lapu-lapu City Run, a boxing tournament, photo contests, food festivals participated in by different Lapu-Lapu resorts, golf tournaments at the Mactan Golf Club, live band concerts, presentations from the different departments of the city, band concerts and a fireworks display.
In 2005, Cebu Stamp Club, Incorporated (CSCI) was invited by the Lapu-lapu City Government to exhibit stamps featuring Lapu-lapu and Magellan.
Stamps above feature Lapu-lapu released on October 20, 1963 and Magellan's Landing issued on February 15, 1935.
