Nicomedes Marquez Joaquin (May 4, 1917 – April 29, 2004) was born in Paco, Manila. He was the Philippines third best Filipino writer in English next to Jose P. Rizal and Claro M. Recto. His works include short stories, novels. plays and Philippine history. He also wrote books that give tribute to Jose Rizal. As a journalist, he used the pen name Quijano de Manila and raised the level of reportage in the country with his intellectual and provocative style of journalism. Nick Joaquin was conferred the rank and title of National Artist for Literature.
