MARCH 11, 1942
Gen. Douglas MacArthur escaped from Corregidor in a PT boat and headed
for Australia This action was the result of US President Franklin D.
Roosevelt’s order after fearing that MacArthur would be taken prisoner
after the fall of Corregidor. MacArthur traveled from Corregidor to
Cagayan in Mindanao amidst stormy seas patrolled by Japanese warships
then flew to Australia.
