Gov. Gen. Simon de Anda

OCTOBER 28, 1701

Simon de Anda y Salazar (October 28, 1701 – October 30, 1776), the Spanish governor of the Philippines from 1770 to 1776, was born in Subijana de Alava, Basque Country, Spain. 

An Oidor of the Royal Audience of Manila, he was appointed as Lt. Governor by Archbishop Manuel Rojo, the acting Governor and Capitan-General and the Audiencia during the 1762 British occupation of Manila. 

After Rojo was captured, the Audencia ceded the islands to the invaders. Anda set up a new base in Bacolor, Pampanga and organized a resistance movement against the British.

Visitors At My Exhibit

It's truly an honor that His Excellency, Ambassador Ephraim Ben Matityau, the Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines dropped by to see the Selyo ug Kasaysayan sa Fort (Stamps and History at the Fort). 

This is my longest running one-man historical stamp and photo exhibit for Cebu Stamp Club at the Cuerpo de Guardia, Fort San Pedro during its exhibit playdate from 2013 to 2015. The 2015 Miss Cebu candidates also came by. 

An average of a thousand visitors a day come to visit the fort.

GSIS Museum Acquires Juan Luna Painting

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):

OCTOBER 27, 2002

The Parisian Life or Interior d’Un Café, an oil on canvass painting by Juan Luna was bought by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Museum, a Philippine-government owned and controlled corporation from Christie's Hong Kong in the amount of $870,000. 

The Parisian Life, measuring 57 cm x 79 cm (22 in x 31 in) is one of Luna’s masterpieces that was painted in Paris, France in 1892. 

This painting won as a silver medalist at the World Fair’s Saint Louis Exposition in the United States in 1904.

Talent Manager At Work

This was on October 26, 2018 and I was requested to edit a movie script and at the same time, hire actors here in Cebu for a Tagalog movie. 

A few days earlier, the executive producer has already talked to two of the award winning actors in the Philippines to be the main cast in the film.

It was not an easy task because the line producer wants me to request these local actors who are expensive to slash down their rates. Her reason, it is an advocacy film.

Good thing I am friends with these top caliber actors and they agreed to cut their talent fees and I am so grateful to them. They agreed not because it was an advocacy film project but because of our friendship. Thank you Ma'am Dulcita Siroy, Charlie Yap, Albert Paran, Alex Ilaya and to the other actors who said yes when I asked them to join the shoot. God is good  🇵🇭

Pres. McKinley Instructs To Demand The Cession Of The Philippines

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):

OCTOBER 26, 1898

Pres. William McKinley instructed the American Peace Commission to demand for the cession of the Philippines in the negotiation with their Spanish counterpart in a meeting in Paris that would officially end the Spanish-American War. 

The negotiations began on October 1, 1898 and culminated in the signing of the December 10, 1898 Treaty of Paris. Spain relinquished her sovereignty over Cuba, and placed Puerto Rico and Guam under American control. 

The Philippines was sold to the United States for $20 million.

Cebu Stamp Club's Venezia Milan Uy

When the club started on August 24, 1996, Milan was one of the first to join and became an officer. 

She was a college student that time in an exclusive Catholic institution. 

She collects Philippines and worldwide stamps and very active with the club. 

Recently she was awarded and recognized by a big bank for rendering 20 years of service as an officer. 

Today, Venezia Milan Y. Uy with Membership ID No. M960007 renewed her membership 🇵🇭

Marina Dizon

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):

OCTOBER 25, 1950

Marina Dizon y Bartolome (July 18, 1875 – October 25, 1950), one of the first women initiated into the Katipunan died on this day. 

Born in Trozo (now Tondo), Manila, she was the daughter of Jose Dizon, one of the 13 Martyrs of Bagumbayan. She was a cousin of Emilio Jacinto, who was with her when she joined the Katipunan in 1893. 

She presided the initiation rites for women, kept the records, and taught new members the Katipunan constitution and teachings. 

Marina Dizon married Katipunan leader Jose Turiano Santiago.
