Thanks Manila Bulletin

Sometime in October 2014, Manila Bulletin featured a photo of my one-man stamp and photo exhibit for Cebu Stamp Club titled Selyo ug Kasaysayan sa Fort (Stamps and History at the Fort). This historical presentation was at the Cuerpo de Guardia, Fort San Pedro, Cebu City. 

Although there was no mention of the club and yours truly, we still thank the writer for taking the time to visit and feature the exhibit. 

A few years later, on September 3, 2017, a day after my birthday, Manila Bulletin highlighted us in a half page article in the nationwide newspaper. Thank you Manila Bulletin and Alexa Bacay 🇵🇭

The Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition):

SEPTEMBER 14, 1815

After 250 years and 110 Manila galleons that sailed, the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade ended after the Mexican War of Independence put a stop to its trade route. 

The Manila-Acapulco galleon trade started when Andrés de Urdaneta, who sailed in convoy under Miguel López de Legazpi, found a return route from Cebu City to Mexico in 1565. 

Galleons travelled five months bringing goods, cultural exchanges and economic benefits, and sailed across the Pacific Ocean from Manila to Acapulco.

New Exhibit on Philippine Presidents Soon

I always give my support to whoever is the sitting president. I am a nationalist and my loyalty is to this country, its flag and the presidency. 

In the past, I came up with exhibits for Cebu Stamp Club highlighting our heroes and presidents with major presentations featuring Presidents Cory Aquino and Noynoy Aquino. 

Soon, a historical stamp and photo exhibit from my collections will be launched titled “Selyo ug Kasaysayan: Ang Presidente” which will include the past chief executives and highlight President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. To God be the glory! 

Macario Sakay

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition)

SEPTEMBER 13, 1907

Macario Sakay y de León (March 1, 1870 – September 13, 1907), a general who fought with Andres Bonifacio during the Philippine Revolution was hanged by the Americans. 

Disregarding Emilio Aguinaldo’s decree for all generals to surrender to the Americans, he fought them even after the end of the Philippine-American War. 

He surrendered on July 20, 1906 but was tried for "bandolerismo under the Brigandage Act of Nov. 12, 1902, which interpreted all acts of armed resistance to American rule as banditry. Sakay was President of the Republic of8 Katagalugan.

Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. Delivers A Privilege Speech

Today in Philippine History (Philatelic Edition Series 2):

SEPTEMBER 13, 1972

Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. delivered a privilege speech that focused on “Oplan Sagittarius.” 

He mentioned a top secret plan wherein President Ferdinand E. Marcos will place Metro Manila, Bulacan and the towns in Rizal Province under the control of the Philippine Constabulary headed by General Fidel Ramos. 

He added that this move is a prelude to the declaration of Martial Law, and that the Plaza Miranda bombing as well as other bombings will be used as an excuse to place the country under authoritarian rule. “Oplan Sagittarius” was made by General Romeo Espino in February 1971.

Happy Birthday President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Today is the 65th birthday of the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. Happy Birthday Your Excellency PBBM!

There is still no official stamp featuring President BBM but the Philippine Postal Corporation (Post Office) released an inaugural cover on June 30, 2022 to highlight his historic inauguration as president. The commemorative cover is marked with a special postmark to highlight the event.

President Ferdinand E. Marcos Birth Centenary Stamp

The Philippine Postal Corporation released on September 11, 2017 a stamp commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of former president Ferdinand Edralin Marcos, the father of Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos Jr. 

PBBM on Sunday, September 11, 2022 together with his family commemorated the 105th birthday of his father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos with a Mass at the Libangan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
